The general agricultural economics area or concentration provides a basic background for a variety of careers related to agriculture.
Prepare for agricultural teaching, extension and environmental technology employment positions. The curriculum provides flexibility in emphasizing teacher preparation, environmental technology or communications and leadership.
This curriculum provides an opportunity to acquire the necessary background in agricultural economics, agronomy, breeding, nutrition, pathology and physiology for careers in animal, dairy or poultry production and management.
Upon completion of a four-year program, the student will be trained in a balanced approach to forest management. Graduates will have a wide range of employment opportunities with state and federal agencies as well as with private industry.
Employment for graduates includes owning a farm business, the private sector of agriculture business and a wide range of public employment.
The AA degree in Horticulture provides a variety of options. As a stand-alone associate’s degree, the graduate will be qualified to enter the workforce as an entry level technician, farm worker, sales associate or entrepreneur. As a 2+2 associate’s degree, the two years of study at Potomac State College will transfer directly to the Morgantown campus for any degree offered by the Davis College Division of Plant and Soil Sciences.
This major has a flexible design allowing students to acquire the necessary first two years of study in agricultural biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics, physics and modern concepts of biology. Students begin preparation for entrance to professional schools of veterinary medicine, human medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy or graduate study in the fields of agricultural biochemistry, animal breeding, animal physiology and nutrition.
Upon completion of the four-year program, students are prepared for a wide variety of professional recreation and parks responsibilities with local, state and federal government agencies, land managing agencies, private and commercial recreational organizations and agencies serving special populations.
Take business and agriculture courses and gain hands-on experience. With three farms, 800+ acres of land, numerous livestock enterprises, quarter and draft horses, crops, forests, and advanced labs, our program offers some of the best opportunities in the tri-state region.
The program provides the foundation for continued education in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources. Students receive personalized attention in small classes to prepare them for future academic endeavors.
Upon completion of the four-year program students will find that employment opportunities are available in procurement, management, production, marketing, research and development with both primary and secondary wood product industries.
