It is intended to assist citizens of West Virginia and other states who have earned credits, often from a variety of sources, to apply those credits toward an associate degree. The degree is nontraditional in that it provides opportunities for verifying competencies as a means for recognizing and awarding credits for learning through life experiences, e.g. credits awarded through College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and DEFENSE Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) testing; credits for training in the Military, business, industry, etc. as recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE); credits for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA); credits earned through nationally recognized certifications and licenses; or credits earned by challenging courses offered by Potomac State College of WVU.
The AAS in Technical Studies: General will consist of three curricular components: general education, area of concentration and electives for a total of 60 credit hours.
The degree provides opportunities for establishing professional credentials to meet occupational requirements, employment and personal educational goals.
